Exclusive Teen Literary Journal of Writers & Books
Canvas Teen Literary Journal was founded in Spring 2013 and is published quarterly in print, ebook, web, and multimedia formats. Our print journal is produced in a sophisticated, 5.25X8 format, averaging 100 black-and-white pages with a full-color front and back cover. During its first eleven issues, Canvas has published short fiction, novel excerpts, plays, poems, creative nonfiction, and multimedia (audio and video) contributor recordings and interviews from over 500 teen writers ages 13-18, selecting from over 2500 submissions from 40 states: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming, and 17 countries and territories including US, China, Canada, Korea, UK, United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Australia, North Java, Guam, Mexico, Germany, Pakistan, India, Malaysia, Ireland, Italy, Brazil, and Ecuador.
Our readers and contributors are gifted, serious student writers. A majority of our submitters have keys and medals in Scholastic’s Alliance for Young Artists and Writers and other national and regional awards, honors, commendations, as well as multiple publishing credits. However, we also routinely receive and accept work by writers for whom Canvas will be their first publication.
Canvas was listed #2 in Cult of Pedagogy’s “13 Stunning Places to Publish Student Art and Writing,” with the statement:
“Canvas has only been around since 2013, and if what they’ve done so far is any indication of where they’re going, they will soon become a considerable force on the student literary scene.”
Canvas is available for sale on Amazon, at Writers & Books in Rochester, NY, at Rochester-area literary festivals, and has been purchased by libraries and bookstores through our CreateSpace channels. Circulation is not based on subscription rates since Canvas does not run on a subscription-based format. Instead we sell books print-on-demand and hand-to-hand. We also sell ebooks through Kindle Direct Publishing on Amazon.
