Maligner

Ashley Anderson

Fissured throat
At a glance you can see his
Liquid skin, weeping
Like a melting glacier
Indignantly
Narrowing around his solemn,
Gilded eyes

Voice torn and
Open; fissured throat
Cracked and dry
At a glance you can see the
Black throat that
Liars choke on with
Every word they gag

Ashley Anderson is seventeen years old and was born in Topeka, Kansas. Because her dad was in the U.S. Air Force as an electrical engineer, she has lived in many different states. She currently lives in San Pedro, California, and attends Port of Los Angeles High School. Anderson struggled with writing and reading as a child because of dyslexia, and could not write until the age of 9. However, after years of constant practice, she is now a published writer in her school's literary journal, newspaper and is the winner of the first annual Tomorrow Prize Award for short science fiction.
