two Hrs and a Dr.'s Note

Nhilynn Nguyen

A check up like any other
                  I, the Doctor
                  You, the patient
The diagnosis: nostalgia
Started with a hiccup for smiles,
And a headache of witty comebacks through the phone.
Ended with a cough of an abrupt goodbye,
And a cold sore reminding us of why things ended.

Dr.’s Note:
Forever it will return, like a seasonal flu
Preventing the heart
From the immunity of pain,
That could’ve been and was,
But never will be.

Nhilynn Nguyen is a part of the class of 2017 and attends an international studies magnet program. She currently plans to study international affairs or early childhood education in college.
